We all have our own approach. Maybe shuffling the deck isn’t important to you. Maybe it means a great deal. My method of shuffling is how I signal both my mind and the multiverse that something special is about to happen.
In the Heathen cosmos you’ll discover nine worlds. All nine worlds are part of the great Tree Yggdrasil. All there is, ever was, and shall be is housed within the great tree. That’s why I shuffle my cards nine times. I imagine the forces of Wyrd – a vast network of interconnection – becoming clearer as each shuffle brings the cards through each of the nine worlds.
You’ll also find three female forces known as the Norns within the Heathen cosmos. The Norns are responsible for the spinning of Wyrd. They are named Urd / Urdr (What once was), Verdandi (What is coming into being), and Skuld (What shall be). This isn’t exactly past, present, and future. It’s more like the layered resonance of the past influencing what is coming into the present or very near future. What shall be is not laid in stone. The future can be altered in some ways, and unavoidable in others. I like to split the deck three times after I shuffle the cards. I imagine I’m getting in touch with the Norns by visualizing them in each of the three separate stacks.
This is when I can start laying out cards. I feel centered within my spiritual cosmos. I feel in touch with the Great Tree. I feel connected to the unfolding Wyrd. It’s when I know I’ve drank from the Well, and I’m certain I can guide you through what you need to know.
How do you shuffle your cards? Does it carry a deeper meaning?
