Welcome to your weekend!
It’s Fab Five Friday when you get to see five of my favorite things this week. Enjoy!
Short Movie: It isn’t very often you see 20 minutes of great story telling around a fictional world where Shamans are not just healers. They are also highly praised weapons. The premise of the short film is consistent with animism’s claim that every single thing has a spirit. Place that belief in a world at war using giant robots as the main weapon. A Shaman can go deal with the spirit of the machine. Interested yet? Watch it now!
Devotionals: Melissa Hill, an amazing Priestess in the ADF Tradition, delivers another wonderful post this week. This time she covers devotionals. Acts of worship that can be completed every day without taking much time. I really love her suggestions of simplicity. I hope you will too!
Cultures and Borders: There is a lot of cultural appropriation talk going around the Pagan and Occult world. It’s great to see more complicated philosophical matters in modern Paganism gathering attention and worthy debate. However, there comes a time to call bullshit. It is honorable and appropriate to respect the traditions within their framework. It’s foolish to believe any tradition has been unchanged through the centuries. It’s sad to see the argument go so far it looks like spiritual segregation. One article this week summed up some excellent criticisms of all sides of the debate. Enjoy!
Live Like a Refugee?: Take an incredible look into hospitality, tribal vs tribalism, and perceiving the “other” in society. All written by someone who came to the US as a refugee years ago. Brilliant and thoughtful. I highly recommend spending time thinking over what you read in the article.
Philosophy Moment: Once in a while a message is best delivered in clear and easy to understand words. What are you thinking about doing that fear keeps standing in your way? There is a secret formula to move through that fear. This mindset made me a hypnotist, a meditation teacher, a tarot professional, and founded the Skate For Diabetes. This attitude made me get through college, step onto the mats, make new friends, and countless adventures yet to come. Have a listen to the idea presented by wordsmith Ice-T. Trust me. It’s worth your time.
